Body Building DVD Review - Lee Priest: The Blond Myth

Bodybuilding DVD Review – Lee Priest: The Blond Myth

Lee Priest is a freak. There is no getting around it. Lee says in the DVD that he has aimed for the freakish physique. Well he can cross that off the list because he is most definitely a unit.

Whenever my dad saw a bloke with muscles he would say “that bloke has got muscles on his ear lobes”. Well Lee has not got muscles on his ear lobes but somehow he has managed to get muscles on his hands – and he can flex them too. I don’t think the judges give him any extra points but I certainly would.

I got this DVD because I have a soft spot for Lee – obviously for his association with Powertec, he is Australian plus he says what he thinks. Once again this DVD highlights that body builders do not get the recognition they deserve. Given his achievements and standing in the world of body building, Lee Priest would be a household name in Australia if he performed to the same level in cricket, tennis, football etc. This does not seem to bother Lee though as he is just happy that he can train and compete professionally.

The Blond Myth is also a good wake up call for those skeptics who think all body builders are just a product of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. Lee Priest is a perfect example of the role that genetics play in weight training. Lee talks about how he started weight training at 13 and was already squatting 3 and half plates. By the time he was 17 he was IFBB Australian Champion. To prove it was no fluke he than won it the next two years. Thankfully for the other Australian body builders at the time, Lee decided to pursue his body building career overseas.

Lee further demonstrates his superior genetics by outlining his off season diet. I can’t remember it exactly but it was something like KFC, hamburger, Chinese and that was just for breakfast, then more junk food for the rest of the day. Sure he puts on a bit of fat but his blood tests show a below average cholesterol reading – this bloke is just a muscle building furnace!

Lee Priest’s weight training is hard and heavy. He focuses on training in the 6-8 rep range and builds his workouts around the compound exercises. A lot of skeptics say that body builders are all show and no go well Lee Priest puts that myth to rest. He flat dumbbell presses 200 pound dumbbells at reps and squats between 7-8 plates.

I definitely give Lee Priest’s – The Blond Myth a big thumbs up. The only negative to the DVD is that the title sounds like a porno movie so your missus might give you a second look when you tell her what you are watching. I really liked Lee’s laid back style and outlook on life. Obviously he wouldn’t knock back the fame and fortunes from the lifestyle of other pro sporting careers, but he feels blessed that he can put a roof over his head and food on the table from pro body building.
