SAM'S ATX-DICO-SQS REWIEW
If you want all the benefits of a power rack but you do not have space for one. Or if you had ever thought, wouldn’t it be great to have a power rack that could be transported easily – we might have found your answer.
JUST LIKE A POWER RACK
The ATX-DICO-SQS are not just your run of the mill squat stands. They are massive for starters. This makes a whole world of difference for stability. Secondly they open the door for all the different attachments that are available.
It is important that I emphasise this now because they are not cheap. But for the right person who has these specific needs they are worth every penny.
BUILD
The ATX Squat Stands are made from 80 x 80 3mm thick steel tube. 75 x 75mm is normally the top end of steel used in these sorts of applications. The extra size probably does not make a whole lot of difference to most lifters. However when you see and compare the size of the 80 x 80 tube in the flesh you will be impressed.
To make them even beefier, ATX have used M20 bolts. These bolts require a 30mm socket which gives you an indication of their size. Combined with the reinforced backing plates, these would have to be one of the most structurally sound squat stands on the market.
Lucky for you they have got wheels. The downside of this construction is that each stand weighs 33.5kg. That is without j hooks or spotters. Now you can see why this set up is not cheap. A pair weighs in at 67kgs. That is just the frame. That is heavier than some power racks minus the j-cups and safeties.
The uprights are numbered which is handy. There are 28 hole positions in total.
FUNCTIONALITY
Now to the best part, this is where we separate the ATX stands from the competition. Before we get on to the attachments, one of the best addons you can use on these stands is the brace. This connects both stands for stability. Or you can use it as a chin up bar. It can be bolted, or you can use these larger knobs that can be screwed on by hand.
The extra support provided by the brace combined with the weight of squat stands will give you the equivalent of a half rack. I know a lot of people have reservations about squat stands. However, this combination is more stable than a cheap half rack.
The ATX squat stands accept the range of ATX power rack attachments. Not just j-hooks and spotters. It is the other more exotic accessories that will make these squat stands stand out.
For example if you need to do seal rows, you can attach the ATX Utility Seat to the spotter arms. If you are not quite hitting the sweet spot. Maybe rows on an angle may be better so you can use the Bridge Support Pad.
Need to do belt squats, the belt squat attachment is easily attached to the uprights.
What about some Leg Blaster squats, we have got you covered there too.
If you are into powerlifting, you have the option of roller j-hooks or monolifts.
Matt from UK even used them as a make shift combo rack in his gym when he had the combo rack in use at a competition.
Of if you want to have a competition but need a quick set up, you can take the squat stands instead!
If bodybuilding is more style, you can also use the ATX Jammer Arms for all your favourite leverage exercises.
SPACE CONSTRAINTS
At the moment in Australia and many other parts of the world, the cost of putting a roof over your head is just getting out of control. Whether it be a gym or home, the amount of space you have to spare is being squeezed every year for a lot of people. These squat stands give you the ability to access all the features above without taking up a whole lot of space.
For gyms and personal trainers these squat stands are ideal for group training, or even outdoor training. The downside is there is a bit of extra set up time. But the potential savings are massive. With this option you may be able to get away with a much smaller gym or studio.
We are so lucky at the moment to have so many different space saving options available. If you want a space saving pulldown option to go with your squat stands we have ones that can mount to the wall. If you need a pulldown that is portable we have the Ironmaster Cable Tower that can wheeled around.
For home users you can squeeze in a powerlifting ready rig with all the bells and whistles in a tiny spot. On screen you will see the SQS-650s, which is the model below these. It is decked out with roller j-hooks, monolifts, spotters, landmine attachment and weight storage.
So whether it be for home or your gym, if you need something rock solid and portable to lift heavy. The ATX squat stands would have to one of the biggest and baddest options around.
