Wrist wraps vs knee wraps — which do you need?

Two different jobs, so most heavy lifters end up with both:

Wrist wraps — for pressing. Bench, overhead press, push press, heavy front squats and cleans where the bar sits on your wrists. They keep the joint neutral so force goes into the bar, not into bending your hand.

Knee wraps — for squatting heavy. Stiff elastic wrap that adds support and stored energy for max-effort and competition squats. Built for the top end, not your warm-ups.

Not sure between knee wraps and knee sleeves? Sleeves are for warmth, blood flow and everyday squatting. Wraps are for maximal support on your heaviest sets. If you train heavy every session, grab sleeves. If you’re chasing a squat PR, that’s wrap territory. Plenty of lifters own both.

What do wrist wraps do?

Wrist wraps brace and stabilise your wrist joint so it stays neutral under heavy load. That keeps your hand from bending back during pressing — bench, overhead press, push day — so you can handle more weight with less strain on the joint.

Are wrist wraps good for the gym and weightlifting?

Yes — wrist wraps are made for the gym. Any pressing or overhead work where the bar loads your wrists (bench press, military press, push press, heavy cleans and front squats) is exactly what they’re for. They’re standard kit for weightlifters, powerlifters and CrossFitters.

How do you use wrist wraps?

Line the wrap up with the base of your hand, wrap firmly around the wrist joint — not the forearm — and fasten the velcro or thumb loop so it’s tight but not cutting off circulation. Put them on right before your heavy set and loosen them between sets. Tighter wrap = more support and stiffness.

What's the difference between knee wraps and knee sleeves?

Knee wraps are stiff elastic wraps you cinch on for maximal support and rebound on your heaviest squats. Knee sleeves are slip-on neoprene for warmth, blood flow and everyday training. Wraps are for peaking and PR attempts; sleeves are for daily squatting. Many lifters use both.

Are knee wraps good for squats?

Yes — knee wraps are built for heavy squatting. The stiff elastic adds support and stores energy that helps you drive out of the bottom, which is why they’re popular for max-effort and competition squats. They’re overkill for light or high-rep work, where sleeves do the job.

What are wrist and knee wraps made of?
