If you have never used resistance bands, they are definitely worth checking out. I have some at home which I use for both stretching and basic workouts when I do not have time to hit the gym. When I go away, I will chuck a couple in my bag.
My favourite circuit is push ups, banded seated rows, banded squats or lunges and banded deadlifts. Combined with walking, 15 minutes of this circuit reduces my feelings of guilt of not having trained. Plus eating too many treats while enjoying my holiday!
In the gym they are great way to add resistance without loading up a lot of weight. When I train with my kids, if I get sick of unloading and the reloading plates, I can simply slip on a couple of resistance bands. Or they are great of changing the resistance curve.
For example in our showroom there is a band permanently on our pec fly rear delt machine . This increases the resistance when you are squeezing your hands together. It just increases the intensity of the chest contraction. I find it is better than adding weight because I do not want to load up the resistance at the start of the exercise and risk tearing a pec muscle.
Once you start playing around with resistance bands you will always find new ways to use them.
