All Metal Construction
There are other adjustable dumbbells on the market. But they are either not heavy enough or are made with flimsy or plastic parts. The patented Ironmaster Quick-Lock system requires only a ¼- 3/4 turn and the locking screw slides straight out. The weight plates are hand machined and interlock so they don’t fly everywhere when the locking screw is out. The end result is that you can easily change weights in less than 30 seconds.
This will give you something to do between your sets, unless you’re the kind of person who likes to gaze longingly at yourself in the mirror. Unlike the old spinlock dumbbells, the locking screws on these adjustable dumbbells will not get loose through your set.
Smaller Increments – Better Results
Another advantage of the Ironmaster Quick-Lock dumbbells is that the locking screws have large rounded flat ends. This allows you to rest the dumbbells on your thighs and hoist them into place when you are doing heavy dumbbell training.

After much deliberation on which is the right adjustable dumbbell eco-system for me, I took the plunge on the Ironmasters as my Christmas present to myself. Early days in what I hope to be a very long life, but I’m very pleased so far! They look and feel solid and well-made. Changing is very straightforward – not “twist the handle” quick, but miles ahead of old spinlocks. On some sets, especially where I’m tapping the weight on the ground, I can detect SOME slight rattle, but that is quickly resolved by tightening the pin between sets and otherwise they feel just like solid dumbbells. The stand is solid and fine for storage, but a bit annoyingly under-specced in terms of size. I see why they brought out a deluxe stand, though they are KIDDING with the pricing. I look forward to one day being strong enough to require an add-on kit.

Perfect set, very versatile, especially when there is more than one person who needs to train with them, and the 2.2kg increments are brilliant. Plates have standard holes which allow for usage wherever you would use standard weights. The stand/storage is a must for changing and storing weights. While the Ironmasters seem expensive, try buying a range of fixed weights in 2.5kg increments from 5kg to 40kg, they would set you back more and take up much more space. Also grabbed the heavy handle kit for future proofing my set. Sam’s Fitness got them to me in Brisbane in 2 days for around $100 shipping. Yes 2 days from interstate, amazing. Thank you.
