SAM’S REVIEW

Unfortunately, these days a good quality flat incline bench is going to cost around $500. If you have a budget around this mark you are going to have to make some compromises. If you get a bench at this price that has loads of features the quality will suffer. Alternatively, if you want to get ATX level quality, the bench is going to be basic. But sometimes basic is all you need.

SIMPLE DESIGN BUILT WITH QUALITY PARTS

For starters the pads are made from the same materials as some of the more expensive benches. The pad height is 44cm. They are 27cm wide and 5.5cm thick. Trust me if you get a cheap bench, it will have cheap pads. Whether it is the upholstery or backing board, once the pad goes the bench is pretty much rooted. We get so many calls from people chasing pads for benches that are less than a year old.

A man performs a dumbbell row on an ATX® Flat Incline Bench 610, wearing a blue workout outfit. He leans one knee against the bench in a gym filled with exercise equipment and adorned with framed posters.
An ATX® Flat Incline Bench 610 is set up in a gym near a rack of dumbbells, with the ATX logo visible. A cabinet with fitness accessories stands in the corner on speckled rubber flooring.

If you look from behind, you can see how beefy the structure is. By making the design simple ATX can make the bench rock solid by using 70 x 70mm steel tube The adjustment ring is made from 8mm thick steel plate and is similar to the system on the MBX-520 bench. It has 9 adjustment positions from flat to upright.

You adjust the positions using the latest ATX pop pin. This is the same one used on their higher end machines. It might not seem like a big deal but trust me pop pins can be an absolute bastards of things These T style pins do the job and you will see them on plenty of benches and machines. But if you don’t treat them right, they can cause some grief.

Two black ATX® Flat Incline Bench 610 weight benches, including one with an inclined backrest, sit on a green floor by a red brick wall. The other is flat, and rope hangs on the left side of the image.

I might add that you will see them on equipment that is not cheap. Powertec used them and that is why I know all about them. Personally, I have never broken one after handling thousands of knobs, but I had to replace heaps for people. If the knob was screwed to tight, you could loosen the t-head. People would hit them with things if they couldn’t loosen them.

That is what I like about this bench. Even though it is built to a price point, they have put the best quality parts in the right places.

FLAT BENCH FOR HEAVY LIFTING

The seat pad is a clever design but may put some people off. In the flat position the gap is 65mm which may ring some alarm bells. I am not going to get into the whole no gap bench thing. But here is a bloke benching with nice form on the MBX-610 and you will see his back is arched over the gap.

The gap is just a trade off to deliver the bench at this price point. On the higher end ATX benches the gap is only 35mm. However, this traditional design is more complicated and therefore more expensive. So, if you learn how to sit your ass on the seat section and arch your back it is not going to be an issue.

That is what I like about this bench. If you are a heavy bencher, then this will be a great value option for you. It is IPF height and thanks to the thick rubber stopper, it is really solid in the flat position. The frame structure is very similar to the heavy duty flat bench designs.

AS USED IN EUROPEAN GYMS

A spacious gym equipped with the ATX® Flat Incline Bench 610 includes various workout equipment like a bench press and exercise benches. The room features a dark floor, bright overhead lighting, and mirrors on the walls reflecting the versatile setup.

Although it is a cheaper ATX bench, and classified as domestic, you can see it being used in gyms and studios in Europe For a smaller European gym, I can see the appeal. It has simple design so there are less things that can go wrong. It is under 30kgs and has wheels, so it is easily moved. At this price, and if you must buy multiple benches, it is a lot easier on the back pocket.

However, the flat incline bench has ultimately been designed and built for the home user on a tight budget. My next couple of videos are going to showcase some amazing designs by ATX. But this MBX-610 bench shows the other side of ATX – being able to produce simple designs with a quality build at an affordable price.
