A hyperextension attachment for a bench? Sounds like a gimmick? The Ironmaster Hypercore Attachment has been around for a long time now. For the space constrained gym owner it is by the far best hyperextension option around.
The Hyper Core Attachment slots into the docking section of the bench (both original & PRO bench versions). It is rock solid and rated for 300lbs. When not in use the attachment can be stood up and stored easily out of the way.
You can also do roman chair sit-ups and obliques – the name of the hyper core wasn’t just given, it was earned!
If hyperextensions don’t feature in your routine at the moment, you really are missing out. The results speak for themselves…
SAM'S REVIEW - IRONMASTER HYPER CORE ATTACHMENT
The Ironmaster Hyper Core Attachment would be my second favourite attachment for the Ironmaster Super Bench. The favourite being the leg attachment. For a bench attachment it provides a genuine quality exercise that is pretty close to the experience of a stand alone hyperextension machine. It is that good that people use the Ironmaster Cable Tower Attachment seat to keep it set up as a permanent fixture in their gym.
BUILD
Now we have an old Hypercore attachment in our gym, you can tell because it does not have the roller covers on it. But the build aside from that is the same. It is just an upright with welded section that docks into the Super Bench. It has foot pegs and rollers which can be adjusted to suit your height.
At the top you have these pads and handles. On the Super Bench the angle is 45 degrees. On the Super Bench PRO it is 41 degrees.
FUNCTIONALITY
Now my ranking as the 2nd favourite attachment does not mean that I would always recommend buying this Super Bench attachment 2nd. When you add this to your gym will all depend on your end goal.
If you are planning on having a real compact gym – by that I mean no power cage or half rack – then getting a chin up attachment before this may make more sense. However if you are planning on getting a power rack later with chin up and dip option, then buying the Hypercore attachment 2nd makes sense.
My recommendation is based on the fact that I do hyperextensions at least once per week, but mostly twice. I did them last night as part of my warm up for a cardio session. You can add them to your leg workout or back workout. It is a great exercise for people or children who are just getting into weight training. The form is easy to pick up and it targets important areas of the body.
Even the most advanced trainers incorporate hyperextensions in their training regularly.
You can do a reverse hyper movement on the Hypercore. When attached to the Cable Tower Seat you can do it with resistance bands. Plus you can do ab work or oblique work – but I don’t really do any of these on this attachment.
Lee also said that the hypercore can be used for Arnold style angled side laterals and strict rear delts.
COMPACT
So the functionality of the Hypercore Attachment rates highly which is what we are looking for. But what is equally important is that it takes up bugger all space. That is why we have had this particular attachment here for so long.
We have the stand alone ATX Hyperextension set up and that is what we use the most. But this attachment stores so easily that it is worth hanging on to. When I train with my kids there are four of us. Having an extra hyper does come in handy. Or if I am training downstairs, I can easily take the attachment downstairs.
If you already have a compact home gym you will truly appreciate this storability. If you are planning on setting up a compact gym I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to plan your purchases factoring this in.
As far as compact gyms are concerned, the Ironmaster Super Benches are what I recommend to our customers the minute they mention severe space constraints. There is no other bench that I know of that comes close to the quality and functionality at this price.
In just the corner of a room or garage you can have the Ironmaster adjustable dumbbells and bench. With just a two or three attachments you can train all bodyparts with multiple exercises. Just the thought of being able to do hyperextensions with some degree of comparison to a commercial unit is just too good to be true.
So if you are struggling to find the time to make it to the gym but didn’t think you had the space for a decent gym at home. Jump on social media and check out some of the cool Ironmaster gyms that are around. You will be surprised at what exercises people can do and most importantly how passionate they are about their home gyms.
