If you’ve got standard weights and are looking at getting a power rack, you’ll need the Power Maxx 7ft Standard Barbell.
This will give you the necessary clearance to fit on the uprights of the power cage. You can also use this bar for all your free weight barbell movements like deadlifts, squats, presses, rows etc. The diameter of the sleeve is 27mm.
If you are buying a ATX® Multi Gym with Olympic Plates, don’t get rid of your old standard weight plates. This 7ft Barbell will enable you to perform supersets and giant sets with your ATX® gym. One of my favourites is super-setting leverage bench press with bent over barbell rows.
Standard Weight Plates are sold separately.
Weight load capacities and what should you expect from a $60 barbell?
There is a reason why we still stock standard barbells – it is an affordable way to get into weight training. Not everyone has a couple of thousand dollars sitting around to spend on gym equipment. Standard barbells allow you to reuse the standard weight plates which local marketplaces are filled with. These barbells are also great if you are not 100% sure if home gym training is for you.
The low price does bring a couple of downsides, one of them being a low weight load capacity. You should not expect a $60 barbell to be able to handle hundreds of kilos of weight, it is simply unrealistic.
The main difference between the elite level powerlifting barbells and standard barbells, besides 8 x higher price and Olympic rotating sleeves, is the tensile strength of the steel. It indicates how stiff the steel is and gives you a ballpark figure of how much weight the barbell could handle. The standard bars do not offer an exceptionally high tensile strength, hence why they are more tailored towards beginner athletes.
