Power Rack Buying Guide Australia (2026 Update)
Last updated: 22 October 2026
We have the best range of quality power racks in Australia – in my highly biased opinion.
This opinion is based on the size, quality and available attachments available in the ATX Power Rack Range. Other places may sell a range of racks, but they haven’t been ordered in a structured fashion like ATX has – in true German style! No other ranges offer multiple choices for different budgets, space and training requirements.
However, there is a definite downside to all of this – choosing the right rack that suits your requirements may seem daunting. It is not just confined to choosing power racks. We have never had so much quality options to choose from.
The aim of this guide is to help you make the choice.
ATX Power Rack Comparison
| Rack | Height | Footprint (W x D) | Weight rating |
| ATX-PRX-510 | 195cm | 118 x 127cm | 500kg |
| ATX-PRX-520 | 215cm | 118 x 127cm | 500kg |
| ATX-PRX-640 | 195cm | 120 x 142cm | 650kg |
| ATX-PRX-660 | 215cm | 120 x 142cm | 650kg |
| ATX-PRX-780 | 228cm | 122 x 167cm | 1,000kg |
All racks include j-hooks, flip-down spotters and a multi-grip chin-up bar. The 500 and 600 series are certified EN 20957 Class H (home); the 780 is Class S (studio).

If in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a Power Rack
There has been an explosion in innovation in gym equipment in the recent years. Some of it is amazing. Some it is just for marketing. A lot of people don’t get to see equipment before they buy these days. So many manufacturers make fitness gear to perform on a website listing or social media ad campaign.
Power racks have been a casualty in this process. If you were researching gym equipment it would be easy to think that you need something fancy after watching review videos of all these amazing machines. People think that a power rack is not enough to get strong and build muscle.
Let me tell you straight this is crap. The strongest I got was training on a power rack with a lat tower option – I could have easily trained without the high and low pulley. You can do all the compound movements, plus plenty of accessory work with some imagination.
Best of all you can build your gym over time as your budget increases. You don’t have to spend it all at the start.
500 Series Power Racks
We kick off with the 500 series. This is ATX entry level, so if you are beginner or tight on space or money these are for you.
The ATX-PRX-520 sells at under $1K. Don’t be fooled, although this is entry level, this rack has got some impressive features. From the previous model it now has laser cut numbering on the uprights and flip down spotters. The j-hooks are better than some racks that are over 3 times the price of this.
For the people who think that a rack made from 50 x 50mm 2mm thick tube is not built for serious lifting, here is a gym in Helsinki with three of them. If you look closely, they have bolted brackets to the racks to bolt to the floor. Also take note of the platform and combo rack. This section of the gym is not set up for Zumba classes!

The other important upgrade is that now you get a weight stack lat option – before you could only get plate loaded.
ATX-PRX-510
If you are not only tight on space, but have low ceiling, then this is the rack for you. It is only 195cm tall.
Plus at only 127cm deep. So if you are deliberating over getting a squat rack vs power rack, this power rack is actually more compact than most squat racks. The ATX-PRX-510 sells at $830. (at the time of writing).
ATX-PRX-520-LTO-PL
Whether you add the lat option to your rack later or buy it together now, this is an unbelievable deal. At the time of making this guide we are selling this bundle for $1,3K.
I will go straight to the downside; it does not come with a leg locking mechanism for lat pulldowns. There are few hacks around this:
- Use a really wide lat pulldown bar with controlled form.
- Do them seated on the floor and brace yourself with feet on the footplates.
- Do one arm at a time.
- Use a 3 second pause at the bottom – great tip from one of my customers. Destroys both the ego and lats
- Use the chin up bar.
Ultimately at this price you are going to have to compromise. But if you are tight on money, it gives you so many quality exercises for very little outlay. Plus, it doesn’t add much to the footprint. I would also like to stress, just because we sell it cheap, doesn’t make it cheap quality. It’s simple design actually makes it extremely robust. The ATX sleeve system which is used on other machines is also very smooth.
ATX-PRX-520-LTO-SW
Even if you are not tight on space and money, but just want a quality power rack with a quality lat pulldown, then this is a great option. With the weight stack pulldown bolted on the back, the power rack will feel just as solid as some “commercial power racks”. Way more solid than a 4 post rack that is not bolted down.
Now this is almost worth getting if you just want a quality lat pulldown with a weight stack. At the moment we are selling this bundle for under $2,3K. This lat option will feel and function just the same as all the ATX lat machine – they share many of the same components. Plus it also has an adjustable leg lock for heavy pulldowns.
The downside for some is that the weight stack only goes up to 100kgs. If you use strict form, this will be more than enough for the vast majority of lifters.
ATX-PRX-510-LTO-PL & ATX-PRX-510-LTO-SW
You can get both the above power rack systems in low ceiling format – both under 195cm. The plate loaded version (ATX-PRX-510-LTO-PL) is under $1,3K., and the 100kg weight stack version (ATX-PRX-510-LTO-SW) is $2,3K.
600 Series Power Racks
For me the 600 series is what makes the ATX Power Racks great – and very European. You have got your entry level 500 series and the 700 series for commercial settings. The 600 series fill the gap.
These 600 racks are just like the 700 series but scaled down – European customers typically have smaller gyms. Plus, they are more affordable.
ATX-PRX-660
This rack is dripping with quality features – j-hooks, spotters, laser cut numbering, chin up bar. But it is the design and build that make it stand out. The bracing on all joints has been refined over the years and is held together with M20 bolts.
Yes, it is made with the 60 x 60mm x 2mm thick steel. The bracing configuration will make it more stable than a poorly designed 75 x 75mm 3mm thick steel cage. The ATX-PRX-660 sells for $1,2K.

ATX-PRX-640
Same as the ATX-PRX-660 but only 195cm tall. The ATX-PRX-640 sells for $1,2K.
ATX-PRX-660-LTO-PL
If you wanted a quality lat pulldown that can handle up to 150kgs, at the current price of about $2,1K, it is almost worth getting this combination. Yes you have to change weight plates on the pulldown, but if you are lifting that heavy you will be needing a breather between sets anyway.
By going with the plate loaded option, you are getting a scaled down version of a commercial rack and pulldown. This will be the last time I bang on about how good these ATX lat systems are. But for this price, if you don’t want to spend all your money in one hit, this is the perfect start for a serious home gym – not bad for just over $2k.
Add a bench, bar and weights – you are now ready for some quality training straight off the bat. The training will be old school but extremely effective. If it gets stale, there are so many ways that we can spice it up…….
ATX-PRX-660-LTO-SW
Same sentiments as the ATX-PRX-660-LTO-PL above. You will just have the added convenience of the weight stack on the pulldown. It is currently under $3k, so again if you were looking to purchase a weight stack lat machine, this alone nearly justifies the price.
ATX-PRX-660-MPO
If you were tossing up between a smith machine and power rack, why not get both? Currently we are selling this combo for under $2K – check out what smith machines that you can get at this price.
Yes, you have to manually adjust the start/stop pins – but you can purchase extra separately. But it also means you can use a wider grip than if the pins were there permanently. But this is more than compensated by the fact that you get a great power rack in the mix.
ATX-PRX-660-KPS-200 660 Rack + Plate Load Lat + Smith Options
If I had the money, and you asked me to choose a power rack set up, this would probably be my choice for my home gym. Maybe I would get the weight stack if I knew I would be training with others frequently. Training by myself I need to change weight plates for something to do between sets.
At the current price of under $3K. this is a steal. The quality and variety of exercises is impressive. Plus if I ever got bored you can purchase some amazing jammer arms that we currently sell for under $500. Add a set of Ironmaster dumbbells and you would have the equivalent of small-scale commercial gym in one compact footprint.
I won’t beat around the bush. You are off your head if you go and buy a yum cha brand all in one trainer – you know the kind that has all the exercises and attachments. These can run up to $3-4K. Yes it may have a functional trainer or a vertical leg press, but these machines are built to a price point. They load them with half assed exercises, so they look great on a website.
With the ATX power rack bundle you are getting the true commercial quality feel and durability.

ATX-PRX-660-KPS-400
Read my thoughts above. I know some people don’t like changing weight plates and like the convenience of the weight stack. ATX have got this covered.
ATX-PRX-640-LTO-PL & ATX-PRX-640-LTO-SW & ATX-PRX-640-MPO & ATX-PRX-640-KPS-200 & ATX-PRX-640-KPS-400
Even if you have short ceiling, you can get all ATX-PRX-660 options in 195cm tall versions. Truly amazing, and I think you would struggle to find anything like this in the world! The ATX-PRX-660-KPS-400 sells for under $3,5K.
700 Series Power Rack
If you have got a gym or personal training studio and looking for a decent rack, the ATX 700 series are for you. Now I would not recommend these for home – honestly save your money because they are overkill in my opinion. But if you are a true Garage Gym enthusiast and your home gym is your passion – you are in for a treat!
ATX-PRX-780
It seems that most commercial power racks are 4 post style. If you are using these in a commercial setting, they should be bolted down. But why go to that hassle? For the roughly the same price you can get this beast of a cage. At this price point, this ATX rack will most likely have better j-hooks and spotters.
If you were contemplating power rack attachments, ATX have one of the best attachments eco systems in the world. If you are researching power rack attachments may hear some complaints about ATX not using 75mm x 75mm uprights. People believe this locks you out of many attachments.
It is not the upright dimensions that exclude you from using some attachments. Hole spacing and sizing are the main drivers of compatibility. Many of the attachments are not even available in Australia. If they were, they would be really expensive. Plus the whole attachment scene has got out of hand. Many seem great in a demo video, but they can be a pain to set up and use, with minimal benefit over other options.
Aside from the attachments, these racks are just built solid with quality j-jooks and spotters. The ATX-PRX-780 sells for under $2K.

ATX-PRX-780-LTO-PL
Try finding a free standing (no bolt down required) commercially certified power rack with a lat pulldown that features an adjustable start stop height system. If you can, I bet my left one that it is not under $3K.
You can load this lat pulldown up to 150kgs. It shares many features with the Trinity Tower. The only catch is you have to load plates – but for this quality at this price. It is a small price to pay.
ATX-PRX-780-LTO-SW
Yet again, the lat pulldown and seated row on this practically pays for it. It will be smother and have more features than most lat machines at this price. The ATX-PRX-780-LTO-SW sells for under $3,5K.
ATX-PRX-780-KPS-200 & ATX-PRX-780-KPS-400
We have got the ATX-PRX-780-KPS-400 set up in our showroom. Priced under $4.5k at the moment, this thing will blow your mind. Whether it be the smith machine or lat pulldown, you will be scratching your head about the price.
The smith machine is just amazing. It is so smooth running on 30mm guide rails. Like the lat machine, it feels better than most you will use in the gym.
With the range of power rack attachments, you can keep adding on extra features over time. Even with no extra attachments, there is just so many exercises you can do. With a set of Ironmaster dumbbells, this would be your forever gym. A true commercial standard set up.
ATX-PRX-780-MPA
At under $2.5k, this is just amazing value for the quality and experience. Even by adding extra pairs of locking bolts, you are still going to be way under commercial smith machines at this price. A great option for a personal trainer or small gym looking to add a smith machine to their facility.
Adding a Lat pulldown, Smith machine or cables later
Every ATX power rack is modular, so you don’t have to buy everything on day one. Start with the rack, then add options as your budget and space allow:
- Lat option (plate loaded or weight stack): adds a high and low pulley for pulldowns, rows and cable work. See our lat tower options guide to match the right one to your rack.
- Smith machine option: available for the 640, 660 and 780 as an add-on, or bundled with the rack.
- Complete station (KPS-200 or KPS-400): lat and Smith together – the cheapest way to get both.
- Jammer arms and other attachments: pressing and rowing variety without buying another machine.
Frequently Asked Questions
The best power rack for you in Australia, is the one that fulfills most of your requirements within your budget. As we sell direct to the public, our pricing is red hot for such a quality brand.
Combined with ATX’s innovative designs and power rack attachments, many of the ATX racks will meet these criteria for people with all manner of budgets.
Generally you get a half rack if you don’t have space or money for a power rack. However the ATX 500 series racks have a depth of 127cm. While the ATX-HRX-620 half rack has a depth of 135cm. The Power Rack is more expensive though.
ATX make the ATX-PRX-510 and ATX-PRX-640 short ceiling power racks. They are only 195cm high. So if you only have a 2m ceiling, these are the perfect choice.
Yes, this is what makes the ATX power rack range great. Its modular design means you can add to your gym when you have the space and/or money. I actually encourage people to start out basic. Adding a lat pulldown after a year or two of training without one, will make your gym feel brand new again. You will be more motivated to train.
