Powertec Leg Press P-LP
The Powertec Leg Press was late to the party. For years I sold gym equipment without a 45 degree leg press machine. Powertec always had the Compact Leg Sled which was one of my favourites. But a quality leg press machine is always in high demand.
This was one of the success stories for the new management team at Powertec. The machine was very simple. It had a massive footplate and loads of room for loading plates. The roller system which was similar to the Leg Sled was pretty smooth too.
If I had to be critical, the styling could have been improved. But honestly I am not the person who really cares about the looks of my gym equipment. Function is far more important.

Powertec Leg Press
Finding the perfect leg press at a decent price is like the holy grail. The cheap ones are just junk – please don’t ask us to match prices on any of these, they are just not in the same class. I have heard all the horror stories about these breaking down, and to be blunt, they are as useless as tits on a bull. Leg pressing is an exercise where most will lift their heaviest weight. So you need a machine that can take it.
At the other end of the spectrum, there are the expensive ones. They are well built, but you will pay for the quality. But what can be the deal breaker with these units is the size. They often have massive footprints.
Strong & Compact
Powertec have really hit the sweet spot with this design. You get a basic, heavy duty leg press that can handle plenty of weight but won’t take up half your gym.
A lot of leg presses in this category offer hack squat functionality. This has the downside of reducing the size of the footplate, plus adds cost to the product. It also restricts the number of weight horns often to two. So you end up with a half assed leg press. Powertec wanted to deliver a quality, dedicated leg press, and have done so at a great price.
The machine operates on the latest generation of bearing driven rollers. These have been developed for years on the Powertec Compact Leg Sled, and the latest design is not only super smooth under heavy weight, but extremely durable.
The massive footplate gives you loads of different options for the placement of your feet. This allows you to target different areas of the quads, or even hamstrings. The adjustable back rest allows you to get in the perfect position to best isolate your legs.
Weight plates are sold separately. Only Olympic Weight Plates can be used. Standard weight horns can be purchased separately if you already have standard or 30mm diameter hole plates.
