Back and Lat Machines
Serious weight trainers, powerlifters, or weekend warriors, all recognise that a strong back is the foundation of true strength. The lat pulldown and seated row combination machine will always be the primary piece of equipment to train back and lat muscles. There is, however, a growing range of speciality back machines and attachments that target specific areas of these crucial muscle groups.

Lat Pulldown & Cable Row Machines
No gym or studio would be complete without a lat pulldown machine and seated row combo. The exercise variety is endless — lat pulldowns, cable rows, straight-arm pushdowns, face pulls, and more.
A lat machine is not limited to just pulldowns and rows. Depending on the attachments you have, you can train every single muscle group on the high or low pulley. Switch between attachments in seconds — back to biceps in no time.
Compact enough to fit in a couple of square metres, and they don’t sit as tall as a power rack. Low ceilings? A wall-mounted lat pulldown is worth a look.
Back Row Machines & T-Bar Rows
Lat pulldowns and cable rows are great for width, but to build a thicker back, you need to be rowing heavy.
A T-bar row machine activates a larger percentage of your back muscles, resulting in better growth. Chest-supported row machines take it further by eliminating lower back fatigue entirely — so you can push the working muscles harder.
On a budget? The ATX® landmine attachments let you pick and choose what you need. A great way to save money and space without sacrificing gains.
How to Choose the Right Back & Lat Machine
It comes down to space, budget, and training goals. Low ceiling or tight area? Compact lat pulldown or wall-mounted option. Chasing raw back thickness? Plate-loaded T-bar row or chest-supported row. Maximum variety from one station? Lat pulldown and seated row combo gives the most bang for your buck.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a lat pulldown machine used for?
A lat pulldown machine primarily trains the latissimus dorsi — the muscles that give your back its width. It also hits biceps, rear delts, rhomboids, and traps. With different attachments, the same machine handles cable rows, tricep pushdowns, face pulls, and dozens more exercises.
What is the difference between a lat pulldown machine and a cable machine?
A lat pulldown machine has a fixed overhead pulley and a knee pad to lock you in place for heavy pulling. A general cable machine is more versatile overall, but the pulley angle and lack of thigh support make it less effective for heavy vertical pulls. For serious lat training, a dedicated machine wins.
Are lat pulldown machines plate loaded or weight stack?
Both. Plate-loaded lat machines are more affordable and offer a true 1:1 resistance ratio. Weight-stack versions are more convenient for quick changes mid-set. We stock both — the right choice depends on your budget and how much you value pin-selector convenience.
