The ATX Compact Leg Press will always be one of my favourite leg machines. The 30 degree angle is more “knee friendly” compared to a 45 Degree Leg Press Machine. This will also enable you to get better range of motion. With this greater range of motion you can work the entire quad.

With the base of the footplate cut away, you have the perfect platform for calf raises. Another handy feature is the resistance band pegs. This is great to add resistance, especially at the lockout position. All of these great features are delivered with quality components in a compact footprint.

Why A Compact Leg Press?

I can bang on about how good these are, but what do the experts say. Lee Priest has been using Leg Sleds since his prime. Over the years I have set a few up for him as they are one of his favourite Leg Machines.

Now you will hear people say that a Compact Leg Press is no good because you can’t load enough plates on. Yes you can lift a lot of weight if you are not focusing on form. This is a trade off with the 30 degree angle.

However if you focus on your form and range of motion you can really isolate the quads. Plus ATX have added the resistance band pegs which can offset this 30 degree advantage.

Ultimately you need to ask yourself whether your requirements are more demanding than Lee Priest.

Why You Need This:

  • Quad-Focused: Isolates the quads and glutes, while taking load off the back and knees
  • Space-Saving Design: Super compact at 187cm deep. Perfect for any gym that is tight on space.
  • Heavy-Duty & Smooth: 500kg rating with UMHW nylon rollers on dual bearings for silky, quiet reps.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this the same as a standing leg press machine?

The ATX-CLP-700 is commonly described as a compact leg sled or compact leg press rather than a pure standing leg press, but it gives you a more upright and natural pressing position than a traditional 45-degree sled.

Who is this compact leg press machine best for?

It suits serious home gym users, garage gyms and commercial facilities that need a heavy-duty leg machine without the footprint of a full-size 45-degree press.

Training and Exercises:

What exercises can I do on the ATX compact leg press?

You can do leg presses, lunges and calf raises, and the adjustable footplate setup lets you vary stance width and foot position for different training emphasis.

What muscles does the compact leg press train?

The leg press and lunges primarily targets the quadriceps, glutes and hamstrings, while the calf raise function trains the calves and lower leg muscles.

Is the compact leg sled good for heavy training?

Yes, the machine has a load capacity of up to 500 kg and is built to handle serious training loads with smooth, jerk-free movement.

Compact Leg Press Design

What makes the ATX compact leg press feel different from a 45 degree leg press?

The machine uses a more upright 30-degree-style pressing angle, which many lifters find more comfortable and natural than a steeper 45-degree sled.

Does the footplate adjust on this compact leg press?

Yes, the redesigned adjustment system lets you change the footplate angle, helping you fine-tune the feel of the machine for different users and exercises.

Does it have features to improve stability?

The updated carriage, thicker locking mechanism, solid steel construction and angled pads all help lock you in securely during heavy pressing.

Load, Safety and Progression

Can I use resistance bands on this compact leg press?

Yes, the machine includes band pegs, so you can add resistance bands to increase the difficulty and change the strength curve.

How do I get on and off the compact leg sled safely?

The spring-loaded start-stop mechanism allows you to lift off into the movement. Pull the lever to lock the sled back into position at the end of your set for safer use.

Is the ATX compact leg press suitable for beginners?

Yes, beginners can use it safely because the guided movement helps control the path, but it is also strong enough for advanced lifters.

Space and Setup

Is this a good compact leg press for home gyms?

Yes, that is one of its biggest strengths: it gives you a serious leg press and calf raise machine in a compact footprint that works well in home and garage gyms.

Does the ATX compact leg press need a lot of floor space?

Compared with full-size leg press machines, it is much more space-efficient while still offering commercial-grade construction and a large footplate.

Is assembly difficult?

Most of the parts are pre-assembled, so you won’t struggle too much. With basic tools and knowledge you could get it up and running in 3-4 hours.

Buying and comparison questions

Why choose a compact leg press instead of a full leg press machine?

A compact leg sled saves valuable gym space while still delivering heavy leg training, making it ideal for smaller home gyms and PT studios.u003cbru003e

What makes this compact leg press and calf raise machine stand out?

The combination of smooth mechanics, 500 kg capacity, adjustable footplate angle and a more upright feel makes it one of the most practical compact leg press options available.

  1. Thomas Keleher (verified owner)

Pretty easy to assemble the only difficult part of the assembly was getting the carriage on the rails. Very smooth when it comes to training on it big range of motion can really focus on squeezing the quads. Calf raises feel great aswell

  2. George

Great machine, the angle is perfect and I love it because it doesn’t put load on my back. It allows you to go deep in the press and the foot plate is a great design as it allows you to do your calf raises too, so no excuses for skinny legs! For the space it takes up and the cost, it is a no-brainer.
