Why Do I Need a 3D Smith Machine?

Smith Machines were considered dangerous by some over the years. Now I am seeing a resurgence. Not just in stand alone machines. You see smith style fixed plane set ups on machines like rows and hip thrusts.

The 3D smith machine combines the best of both worlds. You get the stability to focus on isolating the muscle. While also being able to follow the path of the exercies if using a traditional barbell. For a gym, you are just offering many of the favourite exercises in another format.

These machines used to cost a bomb and only had the 3D functionality. Whereas ATX offer the power rack and fixed smith capability. So you can perform the same exercise in multiple formats all on machine. German engineering at it’s best!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to mount it to the floor?

The rack is designed to be freestanding, in saying that you do have an option to mount it to the floor. If you want to use the outer uprights as your half rack, then you would need to mount it to the floor to prevent any possibility of it tipping.

If you are training inside of the cage only, then you would be okay to use it as a freestanding unit.

Can I do standing shoulder press with the Smith Machine inside the Cage?

The maximum height of the smith machine measured from the ground to the top of the smith machine bar is 198 cm. You would not be able to perform standing shoulder press on this machine.

Is it difficult to assemble?

The instructions are not overly complicated, but you do need to follow them thoroughly as it is very easy to use the wrong rubber stopper which ends up setting you back by a fair few minutes. Generally if you are handy with the tools, you could basically knock this machine off in 3-5 hours.

Why are 30 mm guiderails important?

This machine comes with SOLID STEEL 30 mm thick guiderails. The industry standard for smith machines is anywhere from 20 to 25 mm. With some of them being hollow to save on costs. Subsequently the Solid Steel part is especially important if you want to minimize the guiderails flexing when training.
